Welcome back to a new school year! This is going to be a fantastic year. We have a super staff that is focused and ready to accelerate learning in an active and engaging way! Working together with students, teachers and parents it makes a winning combination! The following are a few things that will help your child be successful at Hawkins:
It is important to stay in contact with the teacher. You may call on the phone, or have a conference as a way of staying in contact with the teacher. Conferences can be scheduled through a secretary (601) 583-4311 to meet with teachers during their planning times unless designated by the teacher/principal. Spend some time each night with your child going over the school day, reviewing homework and reading with them.
Another important way we can work together to create success in your child is good attendance. The state law requires that every student must be in attendance at least 63% of the school day. I realize that some illnesses will take place. That is why it is very important that students be at school when they are not ill. If the student has a doctor’s appointment, please get a note from the doctor’s office and bring it to school when the student returns.
It is just as important that the students arrive at school on time. The students are to be in their desks ready to learn when the 8:00 a.m. bell rings. If they arrive at school after 8:00 a.m., they are to report to the office to get a tardy pass. If the student is late they miss out on classroom teaching and it disturbs the class when they enter the room late. Doors will open at 7:20 a.m. for students to enter the building. Breakfast will be served at 7:20 a.m.- 7:55 a.m. What a great way for students to begin their day! Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m. We appreciate your support by helping us reinforce these traits.
Finally, the safety of the student is important to us. If there are situations that we need to be aware of that pertain to the safety of the students, please contact us immediately. We encourage you to visit the classroom and school. Please check into the office and get a visitor’s badge. Let me remind you to be cautious during drop off and pick up time. It is illegal to double park and creates an unsafe situation for many people.
This is a great school, with fantastic staff, and a wonderful community! Together we can accomplish tremendous achievements for each child. If we can be of help to you, please contact us at 601-583-4311.
