Hawkins Elementary S.M.A.R.T. School is located at 526 Forrest Street in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Currently it served three hundred and twenty-seven students in pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. The motto at Hawkins Elementary S.M.A.R.T. School.  The motto is "I have a purpose, I have a plan, I have a position, possibilities and responsibilities. You believe and I believe that I have been prepared by the S.M.A.R.T. things I do everyday. Hawkins is a school wide Title I school.

Hawkins was one of six school in the state named a Gold Ribbon School by the Mississippi Department of Education for its efforts to rapidly improve student performance. The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)  test has helped turn around their school. Each student was made aware of he or she was doing on the district's Measure of Academic Progress test, given three times a year. Students know what their scores are, they know what their goals are, and they know what it takes to reach that goal.

According to the Mississippi Department of Education, Hawkins Elementary S.M.A.R.T. School earned a "C" accountability rating  in 2013. The Quality of Distribution Index (QDI) rose 140 in 2012 to 163 in 2013. The state growth status met. The school's NCLB Annual Measurable Objective (A.M.O.) performance remained strong in 2013, as the AMO was met in both reading/language and mathematics. The Mississippi Science Test , 2nd edition is given to Mississippi fifth and eighth graders in compliance with requirements of federal No Child Left Behind laws. Percentages of proficient and advanced scores for Hawkins Elementary 5th graders climbed 20.8% between 2012 and 2013, continuing a significant two year upswing. Hawkins Elementary 5th grade students scoring proficient and advanced on the Mississippi Science Test, 2nd edition for 2011 through 2013 disaggregated by subgroups. Differenced in scoring percentages between 2012 and 2013 showed double digits gains for all subgroups; scoring levels for female students increased by 29% while scores for males rose 10%.
